Come Out and Play

GAMES AREN'T FOR KIDS—THEY'RE FOR KILLERS.

For Kylene Danners, there’s only one fate worse than death: entering a beauty pageant. So when her friends (and a shot at a twenty-thousand dollar college scholarship) push her into one, she assumes she’s found hell on earth—until girls start dropping out under suspicious circumstances, and Ky finds herself smack dab in the middle of another dangerous mystery—a twisted web of duplicity and deceit far more deadly than she expected.

COME OUT AND PLAY, the second novel in the Hometown Antihero series by USA Today bestselling author Amber Lynn Natusch. A young adult mystery read perfect for fans of Holly Jackson, Karen McManus, and Maureen Johnson.

I devoured the third book just as fast as the other two, the characters have come so far since Dare You to Lie came out, it’s going to eat me up inside until the 4th book is released! Any news on when it will be published?

    1. No firm date yet BUT the cover is being designed RIGHT NOW, and I’m hoping to tackle this project later this year.

I just wanted to say that your books are so good. I can’t wait for the fourth one. These books made me laugh and cry in equal measures when I needed it most. Another favorite series of mine was canceled after two books and I’ve also felt that the story had more to tell. Thank you so much for self-publishing this series. We love and appreciate you.

    1. we’ve ALL had favorites cancelled, and I just couldn’t stand the thought of leaving the crew hanging. I adore this series more than almost all the rest of mine so i wanted to see it to the end, regardless of how the process panned out. Rabid fans like yourself are also what drove me to continue. I hope the final installment makes it all worthwhile 😉

  3. I discovered you on Goodreads through a friend recommending Dare You To Lie and I am so glad I picked up that book. I am obsessed with this series and cannot wait for the fourth book to be written and released. I love YA mysteries featuring a strong female character with strong friendships. You also perfected the slow burn romance. I am so impressed with your writing especially that you write part time alongside your chiropractic business!

    1. Thanks so much for this, Caroline! I love this series too, which is why i kept it going after my publisher decided not to continue it to the end. I’m working on the fourth book (between other projects), and I’m hoping to have it out late this year/early next!

Hey Amber! I absolutely LOVED this series! It’s honestly one of my favorites and I read a lot! I introduced it to my best friend and she is hooked on it too. We really hope there is a fourth one. My mom is a NYT bestselling author so I understand the difficulties of writing and releasing books! Good luck 🙂

    1. I’m so glad you loved them! There will be a final book but not until next year (most likely). When Macmillan cancelled the series after book two, it made it harder for me to justify writing it but I love them so much that I have to!

  5. Henessa says:

I so loved your book “Come out and play”. Please keep writing author. You are so talented and amazing. Lots of respect and best wishes to you.

Hi Amber, just finished come out and play in one day! I am living for this series! So excited for everything to be revealed in book four. I’m really appreciative of you continuing this series self-published. My brain won’t rest till I find out who AD is and read more of Ky and Dawson’s relationship!!

  7. Will there be a 4th book? I just read the 3rd one and can’t wait for the next and find the identity of AD.

    1. There will be a fourth and final book! I’m writing it early next year 😉

      1. Sadia says:

And now that this next year has started so when is the next book going to be out… seriously can’t wait to know who is that diabolical AD is and more of that banter between Katy and Dawson….

  8. I loved your book- come out and play. It literally blew me off!!! Amazing like the rest of your works! Please continue the series🙇‍♀️. I’m really dying to know who AD is. And don’t ever writing.♥️

  9. Chandra R Stutesman says:

I just finished the 2nd book and I am beyond excited for the third to be released. I found the first one by accident and glad I did. Very well written! The endings make you crave more and more.

  10. Hi Amber,
I saw your newsletter about this book right now can you ship to Canada or are you looking into ways to do so?
Thanks so much for continuing this series it is a fantastic read, I love the books.

  11. Sobhana Tan says:

These two books “Dare You to Lie” and “Don’t Say a Word” are very very well-written – an intelligent plot and realistic plot, plus well-developed characters. I really don’t understand why your publisher did not opt to buy the third book. I also can’t understand why so few people read these books compared to other YA series which are far inferior to what you have written. I am really glad you decided to publish the 3rd book yourself and to release it this year. Really looking forward to read it.

    1. This was everything i needed today while doing the final round of edits on book three! Thank you so much for messaging me, and i really hope you like the next installment (OUT THIS FALL!!!).

Book three is out THIS FALL!!!!

  14. Kim says:

Thank you so much for continuing with book three! I need to know what happens and who AD is! I genuinely love this series so much and have re-read multiple times. I live for Ky and Dawson’s relationship. And Ky is the strong female lead that I love and inspire to be 🙂

    1. Answers to your questions are coming THIS FALL!!!

  15. Trang Vu says:

hands down best series I’ve ever read, I read them by mid last year and I’ve been scrambling for similar books but none compare. I’m so grateful that you’re hoping to write a book 3! I am certain many people will be confused at your publisher because it’s the best series I’ve ever read. Thank you

    1. This gives me so much joy! Thank you for reaching out to let me know.
And get ready for book three this fall….

  16. Anita's Singh says:

HI Amber! I read the series on 2021 and I loved so much! I was heartbroken to hear the third book was not bought, but I really appreciate your efforts to release the book and finishing the series! I can’t wait to read the final chapter of this story.

  18. I love this series so much, my friend and I are obsessed! I understand how you have lots of other work, let’s all do our best to be patient!

  19. Ananya Polk says:

How many books will be in this series?

  20. Jennifer Nicholson says:

I love this series! It reminds me of Veronica Mars. I love the strong female lead, and mystery! I’m just sad, that if your publisher didn’t pick up the rest of the series, the audiobooks won’t be done
the narrator of these books were awesome!
Please, continue! And thank you for finishing!

  21. Brooklyn says:

Are we going to have to wait until Sept 2021 to read this? I might forget about the series by then! I hope not, I loved the first two!

    1. Here’s the harsh reality of the situation. My publisher bought the first two books to the series and did NOT option to buy more. I, on my own, have decided to finish the series, but will have to do so by cramming it in between other projects, all while dealing with the fallout of 2020 like everyone else. I own a practice and still see patients. I have two grade school aged kids that i now homeschool, which eats further into my writing time. I have no idea when this book will be ready to be published, but my plan is 2021. I have a newsletter link on this site that you can subscribe to so you don’t miss the release information when it’s released (or just follow the blog). That’s the best i can give you for now.

      1. Leah says:

Thank you for deciding to finish the series yourself and trying to fit time into a crazy schedule to do so! They are amazing and I love to re-read them, I am excited to read the rest, and re-read the others again

      2. Pegi says:

Your publisher is an idiot. I just had a student email me that Dare You to Lie is the best book she has ever read, and she will be in the library BEFORE school Monday to get book 2. We love this series!

  22. grace says:

Does anyone know when this book will be released?

    1. Chandra R Stutesman says:

      One more month!! So excited

  23. Hansika S. says:

I love the Hometown Antihero Series. I’m on the verge of completing “Don’t Say a Word”. I can’t wait to read the next book and fulfill my curiosity. I hope it gets released soon, I love your stories.

  24. Need this book to be released right now! I’ve been rereading the first two books and can’t get enough. The wait is killing me I can’t wait for book #3 and #4 to come out! 🙂

    1. Grace says:

Do you know when it is supposed to be released? I am so excited for it!
